Praying before my first exchange. Bonjour! It's another beautiful day here in Grenoble! And the Missionary life is fantastic! This week was full of new things! So Tuesday we got invited to have dinner at a members house with our recent convert J.... It was fun helping them make dinner. They do Mashed potatoes totally different and they make their own apple sauce which is cool. Then they pulled out this meat thing. And we were like what is that? And they were like we aren't telling you until you eat it. We were so nervous! And let me tell you, it was nothing like meat. It was weird and I couldn't even cut it because it kept popping out from under my fork! Anyways I took a bite and it was gross. And we found out that it was pig blood. PIG BLOOD!! I ATE PIG BLOOD!! Eww. After that I ate like 5 chocolate bars just to try to get the taste out of my mouth. Wednesday was my fist zone conference! So we got on the train and headed to Lyon and it was so fun! We talked a lot about hope and how we need to have hope if we want our amis to have hope. It was super good. And I got to meet a lot of new missionaries which was fun! And I got to see Elder Thomas from my MTC district! Afterwards I went on my first exchange. Haha it was funny. Sœur Merrill and I were getting ready to leave so we said a prayer at the door. While we were praying it got really quiet and we could hear the other missionaries whispering. After the prayer we look up to so all these missionaries huddled together waving with Sœur Calderwood, running back from taking a picture of us, haha. Anyways I had my exchange in Ecully which is pretty different from Grenoble, but it was so pretty and I got to meet a lot of cool people. Friday we went out to lunch with our American friend! She is so amazing! And she is coming to family home evening tonight! Ahhh I am so sparked! We also met with a less active who is from Ireland. She is so hilarious and she loves to talk! Haha we thought we would never leave! But she is awesome. Sunday was so crazy. We went to church and two people showed up wanting us to help them and teach them. Wahoo! Yeah we will teach you! It was so cool. Oh funny story. So we had daylight savings, and we reminded the elders, which turned into a zone reminder, and then a mission reminder haha. That actually doesn't sound funny, but Sœur Calderwood and I were dying! P day was awesome today! We all hiked up la Bastille which is a huge mountain. We wanted to take the bubbles up, but they are closed on Mondays :( but it was a super good hike. Haha it was like 300 steps but the view was totally worth it. Being at the top I couldn't believe how big Grenoble is. I am here with 5 other missionaries to help this huge city! Woah. Anyways it was awesome and I think I'm sun burnt now so that is fun. I think that is all, haha I can never remember what happens when. So much happens in a day that it feels like a month. It's not a bad thing it's just a lot. Haha but I am enjoying every minute of it. Oh and I love chocolate and biscoff. The McDonald's here has really good biscoff ice cream stuff. Anyways, this week is so packed with rendez-vous and I am so excited! We are going to start preparing for another baptism for our ami M.... for the 8th! Yep, I think that is all! I love being a missionary! -Sœur Glazier I'm near the top! What a busy busy week! Haha, it's so busy I don't even remember everything that happened. But this week has been full of tender mercies. Three times while contacting we have met Americans! People who speak English! Haha, they were all so nice. One was from Nebraska and she said they actually have friends who are members, but she isn't interested right now. But she was so nice. We talked for a bit and it was so comforting. Then later that week we met someone from Oregon. We talked for a while about the church and just explained why we were in France and how the whole missionary thing works. She also wasn't super interested, but she was still really nice and spoke to us in English which made me happy again. So Sœur Calderwood and I decided to go pass by a less active. We put it in the map and went. But for some reason there was no house where the map said there should be. So we were wandering around the area looking for this street that I don't think exists. After walking forever, we decided to head back. We get to the bus stop and we meet another American! We started to talk and she said she had family in Utah who were members. We talked with her about the church and in the end we invited her to church and we set a rendez-vous with her this week. It was such a tender mercy! This truly is the Lord's work and I am so blessed to be apart of it! Another awesome thing happened this week with one of our amis. So our ami is like 90 years old and she is so funny. We invite her to church, and she says no. We invite her to read the Book of Mormon, and she says no. Haha, but when we leave we ask her what she is going to do and she always says she is going to read. We didn't know what to do! But we got this idea to invite her to have her nurse read the Book of Mormon to her so she and her nurse could read it. But she said no to that too. She wanted us to read it to her. So this week we read 1 Nephi 1 with her. We gave her a copy of it and she just started to read it. I was so happy! She read the Book of Mormon! I think she likes us more now because she had us leave with food, haha. It has been a good busy week here in beautiful Grenoble. I am so blessed to be here and I am so blessed to be able to work with such wonderful people! The Lord is preparing his people and I see it everyday. -Sœur Glazier District meeting last week. Our ami R..., haha I love her!
What a week!! So many good things have happened! First of all, I had my first baptism! I didn't realize how much joy I would feel to see (J..) be baptized. Oh it was so good. Haha, we went to her house everyday this week to get all the lessons done and to help her prepare (oh she has a dog and we are best friends). Anyways, she got baptized on Saturday and I got to play the piano which was super fun. Ah it was all so good. When she came out of the water there was this glow about her and it was absolutely beautiful. It was such a beautiful day. Haha, but I never realized how stressful it is to prepare for baptisms, haha! I also had my first district meeting. It was super good. We talked a lot about the Paris temple and how we need to prepare our investigators for the temple. We set a goal as a district to get four baptisms this transfer. So we thought about what investigators could be baptized without thinking about what was holding them back. It was cool because we realized how many of them were ready. And we are doing so good with the goal already! I know that the Lord will provide away for us if we are doing our best, doing everything He asks us to do, and by being obedient. Oh and after the meeting we ate super good food and I don't know what it is called, but it's super good. And the French... Haha it's coming. I make lots of mistakes, but it is helping me. I called a trash can a butterfly, so that was funny. I ask the kids in the ward to help me with my French which is nice. Oh, haha, I tried to talk to this guy on the bus. I told him that I was American and asked if he would help me with my French. He looked at me and was like "ehh" then looked out the window. I was a little confused, because not long after he started to talk to me again. I just need to continue PVL. (parlez votre langue, or speak your language) This week Sœur Calderwood and I went to have dinner with a family in the ward who live in an outerville. I just have to say, it was so pretty! The mountains here are amazing and I am so grateful to be surrounded by them. Ahhh, I feel so blessed! Oh random thing, I saw my first real strike this week. We were trying to visit someone, then we saw this group of people shouting with signs so we ran the other way. But because of it, all the trams were closed which was a bummer. But hey I saw a strike. It was weird. Since I have been here in Grenoble, it has been so busy! We have so many amis and recent converts that I haven't done any real contacting, until this week. I will be honest, I don't like contacting. When we were done I was super down on myself. I was just so confused why no one wanted to talk to us. This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Why don't you want to hear what we have to say? The Gospel is amazing and will bless you in so many ways that you can't even imagine it! Why would you not want to learn more! Anyways, I was so confused. But as we went throughout the day, Elder Bednar came to my mind. He said that if we made people accept the Gospel they wouldn't be exercising their agency. They have the choice to listen to us. Some people will probably never accept the Gospel, and that is hard for me to think about because the Gospel has done so much for me. That has been something that I have had to accept this week. It's hard, but it comforts me to know that there are people out there who are ready to hear the Gospel, I just have to find them. Overall France is fantastic and I am learning lots and lots. I am so grateful to be here serving the Lord. I have seen so many tender mercies since I have been here. The people here are also amazing. The members are so good to us. I love Grenoble! -Sœur Glazier If you are curious about Grenoble, HERE are some history/facts about the area Sœur Glazier is serving in. First Macaron in France! Lunch with a recent convert.
FRANCE! Haha I made it to France safe and sound. But it was so hard to get here. So when we got to the Salt Lake Airport, the Lyon missionaries and I got stuck on the run way for 2 hrs because of the snow. Because of that we missed our flight in Detroit to Paris. Luckily they had another flight later that night going to Paris. So we had to wait 2 hrs for that one. Then we landed in Paris (wahoo!) and we find out that we apparently don't have a flight to Lyon, even though they said we did. Now it was very unfortunate that our biggest problem had to happen in France, cause none of us speak perfect French. But after 30 minutes we got everything taken care of and found out that we would have to wait in the airport for 5 hrs. Since I was the travel leader I had to let the church travel office know that our flight was delayed, but there are no phones in Paris. Long story short we never called them. So we all took naps in the airport until our flight to Lyon. After all of our struggling, we made it to Lyon and I was so happy to see President and Sister Brown with other missionaries. I was so happy to hear English again haha! Since our flights were messed up everything the president planned had to get pushed back a day. So we had a day to take naps since we didn't sleep for many hours. Anyways we got to go to the mission house and play games and eat good food (Sister Brown makes amazing cheese cake by the way). And the next day we found out where we were serving and who our companion was. I have been blessed to serve in Grenoble with Sœur Calderwood! She is absolutely amazing! She studied at BYUI too and is a music major! Grenoble is so amazing! We get everywhere with trams which is super fun. But most importantly the work going on here is amazing! I come, and we have a baptism this Saturday! I am going to have my first baptism! That is so weird but so exciting. So we have been preparing her for her baptism, which has been super fun but has also been super busy. I also had a ward party this week. It was so good getting to know the members in the ward. Grenoble is like a college town, so we have some students who only speak English. I like talking with them hehe. Anyways the ward is so good and so nice. My first Sunday was also super good. Everyone warned me that I would get a headache, but luckily I didn't. I didn't really know what was going on most of the day, but I loved being their and seeing the members. Oh and all the missionaries in Grenoble (4 elders, and me and Sœur Calderwood) had a total of 15 amis (investigators/recent converts) at church. Apparently that doesn't usually happen. So that is awesome! We had many miracles this week, but one of them was with an Investigator and her daughter. They both have a baptismal date in August and apparently it has been that way since last year. My companion and I were talking with her and we were like hey you are almost done with the lessons! Then out of no where she was like, "I know, I was actually thinking about moving my baptismal date to April since you have been talking about the dedication for the Paris temple. What?! Neither of us could believe it! We are so excited for them! Overall Grenoble is amazing and the lord is really preparing the people here. Oh and for a fun fact all the museums here are FREE! And they are amazing. Haha I think that is mostly everything. I am loving it here! -Sœur Glazier Last few days at the MTC Zone! Our last temple walk. All the Soeurs in the zone. Fun picture of my district. Our last red day. Our Soeurs from the MTC surprised us with a cardboard temple when we were leaving. Heading to Paris with Elder Suisse. Super tired. FRANCE! Airport in Paris. Apartment for Soeurs in Lyon. I stayed here 2 nights. With my new companion Soeur Calderwood! On the train to Grenoble! Missionaries in Grenoble. View from my apartment. We have mountains!
